I count myself very fortunate...Not so much in the things that I have, as in having had the good luck to be born in a time, a place and with parents that enabled me to explore so many facets of life that were available to me.

I received a fantastic education, at a time when you could come from a relatively ordinary background and do so without incurring a mountain of debt, and grew to have a lifelong love of learning. That same desire to explore the new or the unknown has propelled me all over the world, on any number of adventures with my trusty bicycle. It has encouraged me to set up a string of business enterprises, some of which succeeded while others only taught me useful lessons on what NOT to do.

It helped me cope with all the questions and challenges of parenthood (and single parenthood). It motivated me to pick myself up and move on when a job or career choice didn't quite work out. It encouraged me to learn new skills when I retired.
